The ECC is for the operation and maintenance of the 66kV Namib – Lüderitz transmission line. The 66kV Namib - Lüderitz line was constructed prior to the commencement of the Environmental Management Act and its regulation, as a result there was no environmental impact assessment study conducted for the project prior to its development. It is therefore against this background that NamPower intends to apply for the operational Environmental Clearance Certificate in order to comply to the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations.

This project was issued an environmental clearance certificate on 17 December 2017, which has since expired. The application serves to renew the ECC for the proposed fuel retail facility, in order to comply with the EMA act no 7 of 2007 and its regulations of 2012.
