LISTED ACTIVITY ESIA SCREENING FINDING AGRICULTURE AND AQUACULTURE ACTIVITIES (7.5) Pest control. This is an irrigation Project. Pesticides are used to control pests. WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT (8.1) The abstraction of ground or surface water for industrial or commercial purposes. (8.7) Irrigation schemes for agriculture excluding domestic irrigation. Water is abstracted from historic and new boreholes.
For this Project, ECC proposes to only develop a comprehensive environmental management plan (EMP) for the following reason: Lianshulu Lodge was already constructed in 1989 and Lianshulu Bush Lodge in 1998, thus predating the promulgation of the Environmental Management Act (EMA), No. 7 of 2007. The lodge establishment will primarily be located within a combined area of approximately 12 hectares, with the infrastructure occupying only around one hectare.
LISTED ACTIVITY ESIA SCREENING FINDING TOURISM DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES (6) The construction of resorts, lodges, hotels or other tourism and hospitality facilities. The Draaihoek lodge will be developed on farm Draaihoek No. 119, and will comprise of five (5) luxurious, exclusive, self-contained units (referred to as ‘’pods’’). These pods will be elevated on stilts and strategically positioned along the rocky mountainside. The two existing farmhouses will temporarily accommodate the construction team and will be demolished upon completion of the construction phase.
Listed activities triggered by the project include: LISTED ACTIVITY EIA SCREENING FINDING WASTE MANAGEMENT, TREATMENT, HANDLING AND DISPOSAL ACTIVITIES (2.1) The construction of facilities for waste sites, treatment of waste and disposal of waste. (2.3) The import, processing, use and recycling, temporary storage, transit or export waste. Waste generated, which is mainly solid waste and general waste, during the exploration phase is removed by a skip and is disposed at the Otjiwarongo Municipal dump site. A pit latrine toilet system is used during exploration activities.

Renewal application for an environmental clearance certificate for the ongoing bush control and charcoal production activities carried out by members of the Jumbo Charcoal group scheme, headquartered in Okahandja. Important to note As the environmental clearance certificate application is for a group scheme, whose members are constantly changing, the environmental management plan (EMP) presents a strategic document, providing the environmental framework for units to follow and comply with.
For this Project, ECC proposes to only develop a comprehensive environmental management plan (EMP) for the following reason: Susuwe Island Lodge was already constructed in 2003, thus predating the promulgation of the Environmental Management Act (EMA), No. 7 of 2007. The lodge will only cover an area of approximately 3.1 ha and small lodges by nature have limited environmental footprints and low potential for significant adverse impacts on their surroundings. This is a pre-established lodge. A fire that occurred in 2015 severely damaged the facilities, which now need extensive renovations.
LISTED ACTIVITY: FORESTRY ACTIVITIES (4) The clearance of forest areas, deforestation, aforestation, timber harvesting or any other related activity that requires authorisation in terms of the Forest Act, 2001 (Act No. 12 of 2001) or any other law. EIA SCREENING FINDING: - Cutting (harvesting) of encroacher tree species. Bush control activities will stay within the boundaries of the farm which will be divided into smaller camps. The total area dedicated to bush thinning activities will cover less than 5000 ha.
Listed activities triggered by the project include: LISTED ACTIVITY EIA SCREENING FINDING MINING AND QUARRYING ACTIVITIES (3.2) Other forms of mining or extraction of any natural resources whether regulated by law or not (3.3) Resource extraction, manipulation, conservation and related activities - The extraction of loose silica gravel will be used to provide this material to the nearby Sinomine Resource Group Tsumeb smelter, previously owned and operated by Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb (DPMT). The quarrying activities are estimated to be 3,000 Mt per month, including the fines.
This is an existing project that started operations in 2000, thus predating the promulgation of the Environmental Management Act (EMA), No. 7 of 2007. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries ,Water and Land Reform (MAFWLR), formerly the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR), holds an environmental clearance certificate (ECC) for marine aquaculture (mariculture) developments in Swakopmund, Erongo Region (ECC-2401234).
The bush thinning activities on Farm Management Unit (FMU) identified as Okakango no. 187 (consists of the Remaining Portion of Portion B of the Farm Okakango 187), located in the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia.
