LISTED ACTIVITY ESIA SCREENING FINDING AGRICULTURE AND AQUACULTURE ACTIVITIES (7.5) Pest control. This is an irrigation Project. Pesticides are used to control pests. WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT (8.1) The abstraction of ground or surface water for industrial or commercial purposes. (8.7) Irrigation schemes for agriculture excluding domestic irrigation. Water is abstracted from historic and new boreholes. Relevant licences from the Department of Water Affairs are required for the drilling, operation and abstraction of groundwater from boreholes, in line with the requirements of the Water Resources Management Act, No. 11 of 2013 and associated 2023 Regulations. In future, excess water from the Tschudi Copper Mine dewatering program will be piped to the irrigation schemes. Approximately 16 800 m3/day is pumped from the mine to the irrigation schemes on three farm portions via pipelines. FORESTRY ACTIVITY (4) The clearance of forest areas, deforestation, afforestation, timber harvesting or any other related activity that requires authorization in terms of the Forest Act, 2001 (Act No. 12 of 2001) or any other law. This is an irrigation Project where land has been cleared to plant various citrus varieties. Land clearing permits will be required for any future expansion of the irrigation scheme from the Department of Environmental Affairs and Forestry (DEAF).
