The main reason for the Environmental Clearance Certificate for the EIA Scoping Report and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for the operation of the Okonjima Piggery is to provide legal authorisation for the activity while ensuring that potential environmental and social impacts are properly identified, assessed, and managed in accordance with the Environmental Management Act of Namibia. The Environmental Clearance Certificate confirms that the piggery can operate, provided that the mitigation and monitoring measures outlined in the EMP are implemented to control risks, including waste and wastewater management, groundwater protection, odour emissions, biosecurity, and overall environmental sustainability.
