The Southwestern Shovel-snout is a harmless snake that feeds exclusively on reptile eggs.

It inhabits rocky outcrops throughout southern and central Namibia.

It can be identified by its vivid colours and pointed snout which may resemble a shovel.

When harassed it releases a pungent smelling odor.
