Summary details for Gracililima nyassae

Black File Snake

The name of the Black File Snake is derived from its triangular shaped body and rough scales which resemble a file. File snakes mostly feed on other snakes, amphibians and reptiles. They are mostly fossorial (living underground) and emerge after good rains.

They are completely harmless, but often mistaken for the dangerous stiletto snake.
