Brown House Snake

Distribution: The Brown House Snake is a common constrictor found throughout Namibia. The name is derived from the fact that it is frequently found around human dwellings.

Colour: Light to dark brown with two yellow stripes above each eye and a cream white belly. They have a distinctive light stripe that runs from tip of the snout to the back of the head.

Diet: Small rodents, lizards, frogs and bats.

Brown house snakes are nocturnal, meaning they move at night. They are often encountered in and around houses. They are useful to have around the house as they will keep rodents in check.

They pose no threat to man.
