Human resources of the Okavango Area: Some implication for development projects
Briefly, the main purpose of the current sociological studies of the Delta and its environs, is to provide a clear picture of the demographic, as well as the socio-economic, structure of the region in relation to the present utilization of the Delta's resources for livelihood by the people, especially in terms of cultivation, fishing, hunting and the gathering of wild plants for food and other uses. The intention of the paper is to highlight the human factors of the Okavango area, some of which may either impede or assist the effort to develop the resources of the Delta in the best way possible for the general welfare of the people in the area, and for Botswana as a whole.
