Abstract:

LISTED ACTIVITY: FORESTRY ACTIVITIES (4) The clearance of forest areas, deforestation, aforestation, timber harvesting or any other related activity that requires authorisation in terms of the Forest Act, 2001 (Act No. 12 of 2001) or any other law. EIA SCREENING FINDING: - Cutting (harvesting) of encroacher tree species. Bush control activities will stay within the boundaries of the farm which will be divided into smaller camps. The total area dedicated to bush thinning activities will cover less than 5000 ha. - The following harvesting methods will be implemented on the FMU: Manual using an axe, semi-mechanised by means of a chainsaw and mechanical harvesting HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE TREATMENT, HANDLING AND STORAGE: - A 4000-litre fuel tank is installed on-site. It is bunded to 110% storage capacity and the integrity of the bunded area is intact, with no cracks, correctly sealed and with the right outlets.
