Abstract:

Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) section 27 the activity described as "energy distribution, transmission and generation" requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) as it is a listed activity. In 2018, NamPower obtained the ECC for the 132 kV Gerus - Whale Rock transmission line has since expired. NamPower would therefore like to apply for the ECC for 132kV Gerus - Whale Rock including Whale Rock Substation to comply with the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations. The 132kV Gerus - Whale Rock route runs south-eastwards, from the Gerus Substation to the Whale Rock Substation adjacent the Cheetah Cement Factory, in Otjozondjupa Region, and is 28.5 km in length. This transmission line is 132kV, but it is being run at 66kV. The line is constructed with steel monopole structures. Whale Rock substation covers an area of about 425 m².
