Publication Year:
2024
Abstract:

Midgard is a well-known lodge and farm situated in the Otjozondjupa Region of central Namibia, approximately 85 kilometers from Windhoek. The lodge is part of the Ohlthaver and List (O and L) Leisure portfolio, which operates various hospitality ventures throughout the country. Originally established as a private farm, Midgard has evolved into a popular leisure destination, blending the charm of a traditional Namibian farm with modern hospitality services. The farm, which spans over thousands of hectares, was once the residence of Carl List, one of the founding members of the O&L Group. It was Carl List's vision to transform the property into a place of tranquility and natural beauty. Over the years, Midgard became a favored retreat for locals and tourists alike, offering a range of outdoor activities, including game drives, hiking trails, birdwatching, and farm tours. The lodge's facilities include well-appointed guest rooms, conference centers, swimming pools, and restaurants that serve locally inspired cuisine. Its close proximity to Windhoek makes it an ideal escape for city residents seeking a peaceful retreat while still being connected to Namibia's rich cultural and natural heritage. Midgard also holds historical significance due to its association with the List family and the O and L Group's deep roots in Namibia's economic development. Today, it continues to function both as a leisure destination and a working farm, supporting local agriculture and conservation efforts. ENGEN Namibia (Pty) Ltd as a leading marketer of liquid fuels and lubricants in the country aims to ensure that all their clients and facilities are compliant with the relevant environmental and industry legislation. It is against this background that Engen has appointed Environam Consultants Trading (ECT) to apply for an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) for this site on their behalf.
