Colophospermum mopane Wood utilisation in the Northeast of the Limpopo Province, South Africa
Colophospermum mopane, commonly known as mopane, is one of the most important tree species in southern Africa. It is the preferred plant species for fuelwood and poles used to construct traditional structures. It is also used for treatment of various animal and human diseases in southern Africa, and hosts the mopane worms, larvae of the moth Imbrasia belina. The mopane worms are widely consumed in southern Africa for household nutrition and for selling to generate incomes.
