Title:

National Environmental Health Policy

Publication Year:
2002
Abstract:

Environmental Health comprises those aspects of human health, including quality of life, that are determined by physical, biological, social and psychosocial factors in the environment. It also refers to the theory and practice of assessing, correcting, controlling and preventing those factors in the environment that have the potential to adversely affect the health of present and future generations (WHO, 1997). The 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development _ the "Earth Summit" - made it clear that our health prospects depend on proper and sustainable development of ouf natural and social environment. It was emphasised that health cannot be separated from a myriad of environmental elements as diverse as air and freshwater, poverty and urban concentration, chemicals and disease vectors, over-consumption and under development, technology and trade.
