Title:

Ecology of the tsetse fly in the Okavango Delta

Author(s):
Publication Year:

Abstract:

Of the 22 species of tsetse fly found in Africa, Glossina morsitans is the most widely distributed and the only one found in Botswana. Its distribution coincides with the band of wooded savannah that lies between the tropical forests of Central Africa and the deserts to the north and south. In Botswana, the fly belt occupies the only area where open water is freely available. The semi-isolated nature of the Okavango fly belt enhances the possibilities of complete eradication, using recently developed methods.
