Citrullus lanatus, Kalahari Melon or "wild watermelon" is a bitter, small-fruited melon of the Cucurbitaceae family, recognised as the wild progenitor of the cultivated watermelon. The centre of origin of the cultivated form, watermelon, is recognised to be the Kalahari Desert.
