The present study aims to: understand the composition, distribution, and phylogenetic pattern of the quartz-field flora in order to get insight into its origin, history, and age; get insight into the vegetation ecology of the quartz fields, the environmental control of the vegetation structure, species composition, diversity, and distribution; understand the microclimatic impact of the quartz cover on soil surface on the habitat conditions on quartz fields; provide understanding of the ecology and evolution of the Succulent Karoo vegetation in general; to supply relevant data for applied conservation purposes.
