A record of fluvial aggradation in the northern Namib Desert during the Late Quaternary
The Khumib River originates within the Namib Desert and so in the past has responded to climate changes that occurred exclusively within the desert zone. Relict terrace sediments in the valley consist of a basal unit. Lithofacies Association-1, composed of lateral and vertical accreted deposits with no evidence of flash flood sequences, and an upper unit on an erosional base. Lithofacies Association-2, made up of debris flows that are divisible into two major episodes. Keywords: Namibia, Namib Desert, Kuiseb River, Khumib River, ephemeral rivers, relict sediments, sediment budget, luminescence dating, climate change, arid environment, sedimentology, geomorphology, flood dynamics.
