THE ENVIRONMENTAL CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE IS FOR: The 'listed activities' that might be included as part of this development are listed below: o Activity 1 – Energy Generation, Transmission and Storage Activities (b) The construction of facilities for the transmission and supply of electricity o Activity 4 – Forestry Activities The clearance of forest areas, deforestation, afforestation, timber harvesting or any other related activity that requires authorisation in terms of the Forest Act, 2001 (Act No. 12 of 2001) or any other law. 2.1. TITLE OF ACTIVITY Construction of Overhead Transmission Lines (OTL) to supply electricity to the NamWater Borehole UERHH008 and the NamWater Booster Pump Station No. 1. 2.2. LOCATION OF ACTIVITY The two study areas (NamWater Borehole UERHH008 -21.961247° 15.644253 & NamWater Booster Pump Station -21.938050° 15.700269°) to accommodate the proposed Overhead Transmission Lines (OTL) are located between the towns of Usakos and Karibib (Erongo Region) in close proximity to the railway line and B2 Trans-Kalahari Highway. 2.3 NATURE OF ACTIVITY The Project entails the construction of two 22kV OTLs extending from the nearby Karibib-Usakos-Otjimbingwe 22kV powerline to NamWater Borehole UERHH008 (BH100471) and NamWater Booster Pump Station 1 (NW07). The nature of the construction phase entails: Setting out of the alignment of the new routes and pole locality within the alignment; Setting out of the construction camp and laydown area for infrastructure; Clearing of vegetation along the OTL alignment and drilling of holes; Clearing of vegetation within the boundaries of the temporary construction camp with laydown area; Transportation of construction material (i.e. wooden poles, conductors, insulators, etc.) and storage at temporary construction camp; Placing and stabilizing poles and fixing of associated electrical infrastructure; Connecting the overhead power lines between the poles and associated electrical infrastructure; Testing and commissioning of OTL; and rehabilitation of the disturbed areas. 2.4 SCALE AND SCOPE OF THE ACTIVITY The proposed OTL supplying electricity to NamWater Borehole UERHH008 (BH100471) extends in a straight line from the Karibib-Usakos-Otjimbingwe 22kV powerline north-west wards to NamWater Borehole UERHH008 (BH100471) over an approximate distance of 1km. The proposed OTL supplying electricity to Namwater Booster Pump Station No. 1 (NW07) extends in a straight line from the Karibib-Usakos-Otjimbingwe 22kV powerline northwards to Namwater Booster Pump Station No. 1 (NW07) over an approximate distance of 0.3km. Both the proposed OTLs will cross the B2 Karibib-Usakos National Highway/ B2 Trans-Kalahari Highway. The electricity supply infrastructure to Borehole UERHH008 (BH100471) will consist of a three-phase rabbit overhead line supported on 11m high wooden pole (HLPCD) structures (see Photo 1), connected to a 25kVA, 22/0.42kV transformer with a pole-mounted meter board, three-phase circuit breaker, and distribution board. The electricity supply to the NamWater Booster Pump Station (NW07) will consist of a three-phase rabbit overhead line supported on 11m high wooden pole structures, connected to a 100kVA 22/0.42kV transformer, with a pole-mounted meter board, three-phase circuit breaker, and distribution board. The required servitude width for the overhead transmission lines is 11 meters to either side of the transmission line's centreline, resulting in a total servitude width of 22 meters. 2.5 NEED FOR THE PROJECT As part of the infrastructure requirements for the proposed water pipeline from Kranzberg Boreholes via Karibib to Twin Hills Mine project, electricity supply to two of Namibia Water Corporation Ltd's (NamWater) boreholes are required. The project to supply water to the Twin Hills Mine is done by Osino Gold Exploration and Mining (PTY) Ltd. in collaboration with NamWater. The environmental scoping assessment for the mentioned was done during 2024 and the ECC (2502446) issued on 2025/04/23.
