EIA not yet on MET Site. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform (MAFWLR) is developing the Neckartal Irrigation Phase 2 Project. The goal of the Neckartal Irrigation Phase 2 Project is to boost national food production, create employment and skills development, empower local farmers, stimulate regional economic growth, build climate resilience, improve national economic diversification and improve social development and community well-being. It is therefore a transformational national investment as its socio-economic importance lies not only in farming but in the entire ecosystem of industries and livelihoods it enables. The project is located on virgin, undeveloped Government farms surrounding the Neckartal Dam in the Schlangkopf area. This project is located in the //Kharas Region, west of the B4 highway between Lüderitz and Keetmanshoop, and some 10 km east of the Rish River Canyon. The project covers approximately 19,000 ha, of which 5,000 ha have already been sampled and cleared for irrigation. The proposed area for agricultural development includes Portion 1 of Farm Tschaunap No. 75, Farm Dagbreek No. 420, the remainder of Portion 2 of Farm Schlangkopf No. 124, Portion 4 of (a Portion of Portion 1) of Farm Eppenau No. 12323 and Portion 2 and Portion 3 of Farm Schaapplaatz No. 414.
