The applicant has been operating a fuel service station situated at the corner of Sam Nujoma Avenue and 18th Road, in the heart of the harbour town of Walvis Bay for over ten years without an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC). The ECC is therefore required for the continued operation of the fuel service station. Furthermore, the ECC will ensure that the listed activities conducted by the applicant, i.e. the operation of a fuel service station is in alignment with the provisions of the Environmental Management Act and EIA regulations. While no ECC was granted prior to the construction of the fuel retail outlet, the facility has been developed in accordance with applicable industry standards and specifications. All safety protocols that are applicable to fuel retail outlets are in place and complied with.
