Publication Year:

Abstract:

The Walvis Bay Municipality offered Portions 30 to 35 on Farm 58 (east of Walvis Bay town) to Green Metals Refining Namibia (Pty) Ltd (GMRN) for their proposed manganese refinery and sulphuric acid plant project. The proposed Project has the following main components: Refinery: Manganese ore will undergo crushing, grinding, leaching with sulphuric acid, and purification, followed by crystallisation and drying. The process will generate tailings and liquid effluents, requiring proper management. Sulphuric Acid Plant: Co-located with the refinery, the plant will produce sulphuric acid necessary for the manganese leaching process. Surplus acid will be sold to local Namibian industries. Tailings Management Facility (TMF): Solid waste from the refinery will be stored in a TMF. At the same time, liquid effluents will be treated in an onsite Water Treatment Plant (WTP) for reuse. The TMF will be located adjacent to the Refinery.
