Abstract:

The ECC is required by the Proponent, Bluestate Investments (Pty) Ltd application for Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) for Proposed and Ongoing Dimension Stone Mining and Exploration Operations with Supporting Linear Infrastructures in the New Mining License (ML) within Exclusive Prospecting License (EPL) No. 8075, Omaruru District, Erongo Region. The Proponent intends to apply for 5600.9332 Ha size Mining License (ML) area within its Exclusive Prospecting License (EPL) No. 8075 to undertake dimension stone mining and exploration activities. The proposed ML area covers parts of the current granitic (Granites and Granodiorites) mining operations being undertaken by the sister company of Proponent (Moonland Investments CC) under the Mining Claims (MCs) No. 71675-71684. The proposed ML area is situated in the Dâures Constituency, Omaruru District of the Erongo Region. The ML area falls within the Ohungu Conservancy communal land situated to the west of Otjivero and northwest of Omatjette settlements. The proposed granitic (Granites and Granodiorites) dimension stone mining operations will involve the mining of variable sizes of between 5m³ and 7m³ blocks, sorting, storage, and transportation for final processing of the dimension stones. The processed dimension stone products will be sold local, regionally, and exported to the various parts of the World such as the USA, China, and Europe. Granitic rocks such as granites and granodiorites are very hard natural igneous rock formation of visibly crystalline texture formed essentially of quartz and orthoclase or microcline. Igneous rocks are "fire-born," meaning that they are formed from the cooling and solidification of molten (melted) rock. The word igneous derives from ignis, the Latin word for "fire." Granitic rocks are great construction materials and have been used by mankind as dimension stones, construction materials, an architectural stone, decorative stones, and in the manufacture of various products. Granitic rocks are used in internal and external building structures, construction of infrastructures such as bridges, outdoor pavements, building monuments, and fountains, and many other modern urban amenities. Internally, elegant countertops making has been dominated by granitic rocks. Granitic rocks have also been used for tiling, on stair treads, and in many other design items. Granitic rocks have been used in many projects to present elegant and excellent quality impressions. The EIA and EMP Reports cover the impact assessment and management with mitigation measures for the proposed and ongoing mining operations and exploration activities covering the following ML developmental stages: (i) Preconstruction and site clearing for quarry and supporting linear infrastructure area such as storage / yard area/ supporting containerised area/ access and all related services points for water and energy supplies as may be required. (ii) Construction of the proposed quarry and supporting infrastructure. (iii) Operation, ongoing monitoring and rehabilitation, and. (iv) Decommissioning, closure, and aftercare.
