Renewal of the environmental clearance certificate for Paratus Telecommunications (Pty) Ltd for operations and maintenance of the aboveground fibre optic cable along the existing railway and infrastructure following the B2, B1 and B6 roads from Walvis Bay to Buitepos, Namibia. Listed activities triggered by the Project include: LISTED ACTIVITY EIA SCREENING FINDING INFRASTRUCTURE 10.1 The construction of โ (g) Communication networks including towers, telecommunication and marine telecommunication lines and cables. The operations and maintenance of an aboveground telecommunications line between Walvis Bay and Buitepos. 2. Details of the activity(s) covered by the environmental clearance certificate: Title of activity: The operations and maintenance if the aboveground fibre optic cable along the existing railway and infrastructure following the B2, B1 and B6 roads from Walvis Bay to Buitepos, Namibia. Nature of activity: The continuous operations of an aboveground fibre optic cable between Walvis Bay and Buitepos. Scale and scope of activity: Paratus Telecommunications installed an aboveground fibre optic cable along the existing railway and infrastructure followings the B2, B1 and B6 roads from Walvis Bay to Buitepos, Namibia, stretching approximately ~750 km. The fibre optic cable is routed underground in the towns and cities it traverses. The route does not traverse any pristine areas. The Project was granted an environmental approval by the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) valid for a period of three (3) years on 31 May 2017 and expired on 31 May 2020. The renewal of the environmental clearance certificates involves the continuous operations and maintenance of the installed aboveground telecommunication fibre optic cable.
