251127006744: The application for the renewal of the Environmental Clearance Certificate for the operation and maintenance of the existing 66kV Obib - Skorpion 1 and 2 transmission lines including Skorpion Substation and other associated infrastructures
Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) section 27 the activity described as "energy distribution, transmission and generation" requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) as it is a listed activity. In 2022, NamPower obtained the Environmental Clearance Certificate for the management and operation of the 66kV Obib - Skorpion 1 and 2 transmission lines. NamPower would therefore like to apply for the renewal of the ECC for 66kV Obib - Skorpion 1 and 2 transmission lines in order to comply with the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations. The 66kV Obib - Skorpion 1 and 2 transmission lines run from Obib Substation and then turn westwards towards the Skorpion substation located near the Scorpion mine area, in //Karas region. The powerlines were constructed in 2002, they are 3.5 km in length and they were constructed with wood H pole structures. This EMP also includes Skorpion Substation, which covers a footprint of about 14 093 m².
