Abstract:

This application is for the renewal of an Existing ECC that was issued in 2017 but the project was never started due to budget constraints. The following information is relevant to the project: In line with the Environmental Management Act (No 7 of 2007), Enviro Management Consultants Namibia has been appointed by the proponent of the proposed Rehoboth Township Establishments to conduct the Environmental Scoping Assessment. It is the proponent’s intention to develop the project sites for residential and light industrial purposes. It is further anticipated that new roads/streets will be constructed to cater for the proposed township developments and the use of a public open space and therefore a Clearance Certificate is requested for the following activities: LAND USE AND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES 5.1 The rezoning of land from - (d) use for nature conservation or zoned open space to any other land use. 5.2 The establishment of land resettlement schemes. INFRASTRUCTURE 10.1 The construction of- (b) public roads; The route determination of roads and design of associated physical infrastructure where - (a) it is a public road; The proposed project sites are currently undeveloped although some of the natural environment has been cleared and some residential houses are visible adjacent to the proposed areas. Bulk infrastructure and services on and near the project site includes roads, water services, and bulk electricity. The sites are predominately surrounded by open areas with residential erven and houses already established. No compensation issues are present at these sites due to the fact that the open areas belong to the Rehoboth Town Council.
