Abstract:

Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) section 27 the activity described as "energy distribution, transmission and generation" requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) as it is a listed activity. NamPower would therefore like to apply for the ECC for the operation and maintenance of Omaheke - Drimiopsis electrical reticulation system to comply with the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations. The Omaheke - Drimiopsis electrical reticulation system route runs south-eastwards from the Omaheke Substation, supplying electricity to various supply points including farms in the area closer to Gobabis. This electrical reticulation system has a total length of 361.6 km and has towers constructed with wooden structures. This EMP also includes other infrastructures that are Kehoro Isolating Station, Stanley Isolating Station, Pos 3 Substation and Epukiro Substation as indicated on the map below. Epukiro Substation cover a footprint of about 20.6 m². Figure 1 below shows the locality map for this reticulation system.
