Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) section 27 the activity described as "energy distribution, transmission and generation" requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) as it is a listed activity. NamPower would therefore like to apply for the ECC for the operation and maintenance of Blumfelde - Hoachanas electrical reticulation system to comply with the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations. The Blumfelde - Hoachanas electrical reticulation system route runs south-eastwards from the Blumfelde Substation to the Hoachanas Substation, supplying electricity to various supply points including farms and lodges in the general Kalkfeld, Hoachanas and Blumfelde areas, in Khomas, Hardap and Omaheke regions. This electrical reticulation system has a total length 435 km and has towers constructed with wooden structures. This EMP also includes other infrastructures that are Dornfontein Isolating Station, Duineveld Substation, Gurus Isolating Station, Hoachanas Substation, Kalkrand Substation, Rusplaas Isolating Station and Wolfpuz Isolating Station as indicated on the map below. Hoachanas, Duineveld and Kalkrand Substations cover a footprint of about 8.1 m², 71.3 m² and 94.7 m² respectively.
