The applicant intends to continue to mine marble blocks and granite on the mining licence. The applicant intends to quarry dimension stone blocks for building purposes. The area of interest sits predominantly on marble units and granite from the Karibib Formation. The Environmental Regulations procedure (GN 30 of 2012) stipulates that no mining and quarrying activities may be undertaken without an environmental clearance certificate. As such, an environmental clearance certificate must be applied for in accordance with regulation 6 of the 2012 environmental regulations. The proponent intends to renew the current certificate.
