Abstract:

Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) section 27 the activity described as "energy distribution, transmission and generation" requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) as it is a listed activity. In 2015 NamPower obtained the Environmental Clearance Certificate for the management and operation of the 132kV Kokerboom - Namib transmission line. NamPower would therefore like to apply for the renewal of the ECC for 132kV Kokerboom - Namib line in order to comply with the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations. The 132kV Kokerboom - Namib 1 and 2 transmission lines were constructed in 1991 and 2006, and they are 309 km and 312 km in length respectively. These powerlines run from Kokerboom substation to Namib substation in //Karas Region. The 132kV Kokerboom - Namib 1 and 2 powerlines have towers made of wooden kamarad and steel monopole structures respectively. Aus and Konkiep Substations cover a footprint of about 2 674 m² and 3 074 m² respectively. Figure 1 shows the locality map for the 132kV Kokerboom - Namib 1 and 2 transmission line.
