Title:
250425005748: Proposed minerals exploration activities in the Exclusive Prospecting License (EPL) No. 9926, Karibib District, Erongo Region, West Central Namibia
Publication Year:
2025
Abstract:

The Proponent Osino Namibia Minerals Exploration (Pty) Ltd is applying for Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) with respect to the proposed minerals exploration activities in the Exclusive Prospecting License (EPL) No. 9926, Karibib District, Erongo Region, West Central Namibia. The Proponent intends to conduct exploration / prospecting activities starting with desktop studies including the processing and interpretation of the existing geophysical and other historical minerals exploration datasets, followed by regional field-based reconnaissance activities. If the exploration activities lead to positive results, the exploration data collected will then be put together into a prefeasibility report and if the prefeasibility result proves positive, then a detailed feasibility study supported by detailed site-specific drilling, bulk sampling, laboratory tests and test mining activities will be undertaken on the discovered mineralised local area. A positive feasibility study will be required to support the application for a Mining License (ML) together with a new site-specific Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) Reports with specialist studies such as flora, fauna, socioeconomic, water, traffic, dust and noise modelling and archaeology being undertaken to support the application for the new ECC for mining and minerals process operations inclusive of the linear infrastructure such water, energy and road networks. The proposed minerals exploration operations will cover following developmental stages: 1. Initial desktop exploration activities (review of existing information and all previous activities in order identify any potential target/s). 2. Regional reconnaissance field-based activities such mapping and sampling to identify areas with potential targets based on the recommendations of the desktop work. 3. Initial local field-based activities such as widely spaced mapping, sampling, surveying and possible drilling in order to determine the viability of any delineated local target. 4. Detailed local field-based activities such very detailed mapping, sampling, surveying and possible drilling in order to determine the feasibility of any delineated local target. 5. Prefeasibility and feasibility studies to be implemented on a site-specific area if the local field-based studies prove positive followed by test mining. The scope of the field-based support and logistical activities will be dependent on the scale of proposed exploration activities to be undertaken. The proposed exploration activities will be supported by existing tracks and campsites / farmstead as well as existing accommodation in the local area as may be applicable. In the absences of existing tracks, the field team will create such new tracks with the permission of the landowner/s and depending on the scale of exploration. In the absences of existing suitable campsite / farmstead, a temporary camp site will be setup at suitable locations in line with the EMP provisions within the EPL area. The size of the exploration camp will be of very limited footprints during the exploration phase but may be expanded for the subsequent mine development phases in an event of a discovery.
