NamPower’s focus remains on expanding renewable energy. The Omburu Power Project showcases NamPower's commitment to affordable, renewable energy. By harnessing the power of the sun, we reduce costs and meet our nation's energy needs sustainably. The Omburu (with a current capacity of 20 MW) Solar PV Power Station, NamPower’s first fully owned and operated renewable energy project, serves as an exemplary demonstration of the capabilities of such technologies. In carrying out its mandate, NamPower has committed to protect the environment; prevent pollution and strive to ensure that all its activities are conducted in an environmentally friendly manner and in compliance with all legal requirements. In 2022, NamPower was issued with an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) for the construction and operation of the 55MW Photovoltaic Facility at Omaruru, Erongo Region. This ECC also included the associated infrastructures of the transmission line from the Power Plant to Omburu Substation and the substation at the Power Plant. The ECC is expiring in March. It is therefore against this background that NamPower would like to renew the ECC line to remain compliant with the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations.
