The ECC is for the operation and maintenance of the existing 330kV Ruacana - Kunene - Omburu transmission line and other associated infrastructures. Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) section 27 the activity described as "energy distribution, transmission and generation" requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) as it is a listed activity. The 330kV Ruacana - Kunene - Omburu transmission line, was constructed before the promulgation of the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations, thus it did not obtain an ECC. NamPower would therefore like to apply for ECC for 330kV Ruacana - Kunene - Omburu transmission line in order to comply with the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations.
