Publication Year:
2024
Abstract:

The ECC is required by the Proponent (Oshindjalala Fishing (Pty) Ltd) application for Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) for the Proposed Atlantic Salmon Aquiculture Fish Farm, Offshore Lüderitz, //Karas Region Southern Namibia. The proposed farming strategy is to produce the salmon in following two (2) steps: Production up to 0,5 - 1 kg utilizing either an onshore or a standard fish farm solution located in protected area, and; From 0,5/1 kg to 5 kg farmed offshore, utilising specific offshore fish farm design solution. The ambition is to have an offshore system which could include several generations (Setouts) of salmon. Typical three generations mean two cages for each generation. The proposed Fish Farm will have a production capacity of 11.500-ton biomass based on 25 kg/m³ water (industry standard for open net system). The main design parameters for the proposed Fish Farm structure shall be as follow: Farming volume of 460.000 m³. The farming volume is split into 6 cages each 76.800 m³.  5 m HS at surface. Submerged to 20 m with 11 m HS sea state, and Submerged to 30m for winter storage.
