The Environmental Clearance Certificate is required for the continuation of the mining activities at Block 4 (Mining Licence No. 118 and 119) by Fourth Mining Company. The company has been mining precious and semi-precious stones at the same Block since 2002 and wishes to continue mining until their 14th April 2022 as per their Mining Licence validity period and beyond. Erf 688 in Extension 1 of Ndama in Rundu has been proposed for rezoning from being a public open space to business for the purpose of developing a shopping centre. Planet Rose Properties proposes to subdivide the erf into two parts, where Portion A (±4 800 m²) will be developed as a business area. Trigon Mining (Namibia) (Pty) Ltd (Trigon) has successfully obtained EPL 7525, located ~ 5 km west of Kombat (i.e. from the EPL’s eastern boundary), in the Otjozondjupa Region. EPL 7525 is 1067 Hectares in size, encompassing 7 different farms. Trigon proposes to undertake exploration activities on EPL 7525 for base and rare metals, industrial minerals and precious metals. Trigon is planning exploration activities on the EPL.
The Omuthiya solid waste disposal site has been in existence for many years, however, there has not been any ECC in place. Instead, the Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan (ISWMP) has been an overarching guideline plan for the Town Council in terms of Solid waste management in the town. In compliance with Environmental Management Act 7 of 2007, the Omuthiya Town Council intends to apply for the Environmental Clearance Certificate for the existing solid waste disposal site (Dumping site).
