A Namibian Index of Multiple Deprivation (NIMD) was constructed comprising six dimensions or 'domains' of deprivation: Material Deprivation, Employment Deprivation, Health Deprivation, Education Deprivation, Services Deprivation, and Housing Deprivation. Each domain measures the extent of deprivation at an area level for each constituency across Namibia. The domains, and the indicators that make up each domain, are described in detail in Section 2. The domains and indicators were selected in consultation with members of Khomas Regional Council and the Namibian Central Bureau of Statistics. Although for the purposes of this exercise the indicators had to be restricted to issues that are measured in the Census, every effort was made to capture the range of deprivations experienced by people in Namibia.
