Abstract:

The vast Okavango Delta, Northern Botswana, with its outstanding wetland flora and fauna, is under potential threat from climate change and local development. This thesis presents the possible impacts of global climate change on both the hydrology and the vegetation of the Delta. The investigation was done over two future time spans (2050‐2080 and 2070‐2100) using the IPCC emission scenario A2, and five different climate models (CCC, CCSR, CSIRO, GFDL and HadCM3). In addition, a development scenario was determined to get an idea of the extent of the effects of global climate change in comparison to those of local human interventions.
