Abstract:

The ECC is for the operation and maintenance of an existing 66kv Kuiseb-Langer Heinrich transmission line, Langer Heinrich and Uranium substations in Erongo Region. The Kuiseb-Langer Heinrich 66kV route runs north-eastwards from the Kuiseb Substation towards the Langer Heinrich Mine area. This transmission line is 58 km in length and was constructed with wood (Kamarad) 5 pole structures in 2006. This ECC application include the 2 substations namely: Langer Heinrich and Uranium as they are both associated with this transmission line. The Kuiseb substation already has an ECC. The Langer Heinrich and Uranium substations cover a footprint of about 469m2 and 525 m2 respectively. The 66kV Kuiseb โ€“ Langer Heinrich transmission line, Langer Heinrich and Uranium substations were constructed and there was no environmental impact assessment study conducted for the project prior to its development. It is therefore against this background that NamPower intends to apply for the operational Environmental Clearance Certificate in order to comply with the Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations.
