Title:

APP-003566: The renewal of the Environmental Clearance Certificate for the proposed water supply pipeline and ancillary works including a powerline to Okanguati from the Ohamaremba Aquifer, Kunene Region, Namibia

Publication Year:
2022
Abstract:

Energy generation, transmission and disposal activities (1) The construction of facilities for - a) the generation of electricity b) the transmission and supply of electricity. The planned construction activities entail ancillary works including the construction of a powerline from the Ohamaremba Aquifer to the Okanguati community. 8. Water resouce developments 8.1 The abstraction of ground or surface water for industrial or commercial purposes. Two production and two monitoring boreholes were established for the proposed project, to augment the abstraction and supply of fresh water to the Okanguati community. To supply water to the town, a water pipeline, overhead power line, water pumps and boreholes are required to distribute water to the community. Waste management, treatment, handling and disposal activities (2.1) The construction of facilities for waste sites, treatment of waste and disposal of waste. The proponent has developed a waste management plan, to ensure adequate management of waste is practiced for the continuation of the construction phase. This will include setting up spill kits and waste containment units in designated areas along the site. Forestry activities 4. The clearance of forest areas, deforestation, afforestation, timber harvesting or any other related activity that requires authorization in term of the Forest Act, 2001 (Act No. 12 of 2001) or any other law. • For the proposed project, vegetation clearing activities may be needed in the vicinity of the water pipeline servitude and in alignment with the overhead powerline footprint, thereby developing access tracks in the process. Infrastructure (10.1) The construction of – a) oil, water, gas and petrochemical and other bulk supply pipelines (f) Cableways. The proposed project will continue with the construction of the water pipeline, water pump station, and a take-off distribution point that will consist of a water meter and water tank. During the construction of the overhead powerline on the project, jumper cables on the transformer will be covered with LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) pipes.
