How does community-based natural resource management in Namibia change the distribution of power and influence? Preliminary findings
Since 1996 communities in the communal areas (former homelands) of Namibia have the right to form communal conservancies to manage and protect their wildlife. This research focuses on the socio-political effects, such as empowerment and decentralisation of decision-making. It describes the relationships between the respective stakeholder groups and gives warning of existing and anticipated conflicts.
