Abstract:

Main factor for the development of the variability of diversity patterns are the large-scale precipitation conditions in the semi-arid to arid study area. On a regional scale landscape features (high mountain ranges) can influence the precipitation conditions superposing the large-scale diversity patterns. Besides, local conditions have a strong influence on the floristic diversity. Species rich vegetation units inhabit sites showing a large fraction of coarse material which results in a better small-scale water supply. Vegetation units showing a high vegetation coverage are predominantly found on sites showing a high proportion of fine material. Keywords: Floristic diversity, environmental factors, large-scale transects.
