The Okavango Research Group
A group in the School of Geosciences, under the leadership of Prof T S McCarthy, has been involved in research in the Okavango Delta since 1985. The aim of the research is to develop an understanding of the functioning of the Okavango ecosystem. The work is multidisciplinary, but has a strong earth science focus. Much of the work is carried out on a collaborative basis, involving individuals or groups from other universities in southern Africa and elsewhere. The group is also involved investigations in other southern African wetlands, notably Zeekoevlei at Memel and Nylsvlei.
