Title:

Alien invasives in the Kuiseb river, Namib Desert, Namibia

Author(s):
Publication Year:

Abstract:

This study investigates these problems through the spatial distribution of the alien invasive species and their seed bank; and to compare the old established invasives (Argemone ochroleuca, Datura innoxia, D. stramonium, Nicotiana glauca, Ricinus communis) with reported new invasives ( Datura ferox, Flaveria bidentis, Xanthium spinosum). The methods involve vegetation surveys, soil sampling and estimating seed potential of the species. The ultimate aim of any such study is to enable us to attempt to predict the future distribution of alien species and their possible impact on the indigenous environment (flora and fauna) in an attempt to work out viable means of eradication of the alien species.
