Abstract:

The Walvis Bay Biodiversity Report covers the entire Walvis Bay area which is divided into four main areas namely: the Walvis Bay Ramsar Site, the Kuiseb Delta, the Dune Belt Area and the Walvis Bay Coastline. The Walvis Bay wetland was proclaimed as a Ramsar Site in 1995 and is regarded as one of the most important coastal wetlands in Southern Africa for its birdlife. The Kuiseb Delta holds significant ecological and cultural values and makes up an important part of the area used by the indigenous Topnaar community.
