Abstract:

The Namib Desert, lying on the southwestern coast of Africa, is recognised for its diverse and unusual fauna and flora. The monograph contains 23 papers dealing with the ecology of the Namib biota and its desert setting. The papers illustrate the wide variety of research conducted in the Namib or with Namib organisms and the topics range from geomorphology, ecology, climatology to biogeography and the behaviour and physiology of Namib organisms. Climate and near-surface airflow, regionall aeolian dynamics in the Namib, and desert sand dune dynamics.
