Abstract:

The Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), through its Central Directorate for Combating the Illicit Trafficking of Precious Stones, Metals and Crimes against the Environment, in operational coordination with other defense and security forces, and in close collaboration with the General Tax Administration (AGT), international organizations, and NGOs dedicated to wildlife protection, conducted a micro-operation on Thursday, 6 November, on the outskirts of Luanda. This operation led to the dismantling of a criminal network engaged in the trafficking of ivory trophies and other wildlife specimens destined for the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. During the operation, acting under arrest warrants issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, four foreign nationals of Vietnamese origin, aged between 33 and 56 years, were detained. They are members of the criminal network, including its ringleader, who is sought by local authorities for being one of the main masterminds behind the trafficking of wildlife products. Separately, in another operational action carried out by the Department for Combating Trafficking and Smuggling under the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, four Angolan nationals were arrested for involvement in various crimes.
