Eight Oryxes hunted illegally in the Namib Naukluft, suspects at large
THE Namibian police are relentlessly searching for still-unknown suspects who on Friday entered the Namib Naukluft National Park in the Sesriem policing area of the Hardap Region and killed eight oryx valued at N$36,000 without a valid hunting permit. According to the police, the suspects, who entered the park in a vehicle, are wanted for hunting huntable game without a permit and for hunting on state land. The Namib Naukluft National Park is of great importance due to its unique desert environment, diverse wildlife, and rich geological and historical significance. Its vast conservation area protects endangered species and contributes to scientific research and tourism. Meanwhile, the police at Gochas, also in the Hardap Region, have arrested three suspects for the alleged illegal hunting of a kudu and a steenbok on the farm Inhoek on Friday afternoon. The police said that the three male suspects - aged 31, 36, and 44 - were found in possession of a steenbok carcass valued at N$3,000 and a kudu carcass valued at N$6,000, but were unable to produce a valid permit.
