Publication Year:

Abstract:

Wire snares remain one of the biggest threats to the continued existence of Afric's iconic wildlife species. In the outskirts of Hwange, Zimbabwe's oldest and biggest national park, skilled and committed scouts from the Dete Animal Rescue Trust (DART), who are supported by IFAW, work diligently to locate and eliminate hazardous wire snares. We invite you to take a moment to celebrate the tremendous achievement of the DART de-snaring team. Their unwavering dedication and hard work over the past year have been pivotal in eliminating perilous wire snares from the buffer area of Hwange. During the period from July 2023 to June 2024, the DART team conducted patrols covering a distance of 1,706 kilometres, approximately the distance between London and Madrid. Throughout these patrols, they successfully removed 780 wire snares, saving numerous animals from certain harm and even death.
