NAMISUN Environmental Projects and Development 2021. APP-002005: Amendment to Namdeb's Environmental Management Programme Report (EMPR) for Mining Licence 43 to accommodate Namdeb's potential long term life of mine plan.

Amendment Application: Namdeb perform land-based and marine prospecting (exploration), mining, treatment and rehabilitation in ML43. This ML covers an area of ~ 40,500 ha and is located in the Tsau//Khaeb (Sperrgebiet) National Park, north-east of Oranjemund. The current life of mine (LOM) for ML43 ends in 2022. Namdeb has developed a potential new Long Term Business Plan (subject to Board Approval) to extend this LOM up to 2038, through implementing various changes (i.e. amendments) of the current / approved activities in ML43.

Matrix Consulting Services 2021. APP-002781: Renewal of Environmental Clearance Certificate for the proposed new landfill site in Oranjemund, //Kharas Region.

This project was issued an environmental clearance certificate in May 2017, and due to financial constraints the project could not start. The proponent has made some progress with finance now, and intends on renewing the ECC in order to comply with EMA Act no7 of 2007 and its regulations of 2012.

The proposed exploration activities therefore include: Geological Mapping; Rock Chip and Soil Sampling; and Drilling (depending on the results of the aforementioned activities).

Geo Pollution Technologies 2021. APP-002577: Upgrade of oil industry firefighting pump line and pump station in Walvis Bay, Erongo Region.

Request on whether an ECC is required for the following project : Replace the existing seawater firewater supply pipeline from the seawater intake pump station (at Etosha) to the Oil Industry Terminals. The existing pipeline runs underground in a servitude from the Pump station to the Terminals. This pipeline will be removed and replace with a new pipeline in the same trench and servitude. The pump station will also be demolished and replaced with a new building and equipment (same size building and at the same position). Refer to attached background information document.

Green Gain Consultants 2021. APP-002751: Permanent closure and rezoning of Erf 740 from public open space to institutional, Extension 2, Ondangwa.

The Coptic Orthodox Church in Namibia intends to construct an outbuilding on Erf 740, Extension 2, Ondangwa to accommodate at least two flats. Although Erf 740 belongs to the church, the Erf is currently zoned as Public Open Space. The Ondangwa Town Council has requested the church to apply for the permanent closure and rezoning of Erf 740 from POS to institutional in terms of Article 50 (1) (c) of the Local Authorities Act 23 of 1992 as amended and Section 105 (12) (a) of the Urban and Regional Planning Act 5 of 2018.

Smit E 2021. Countries lose billions to wildlife crime.

Governments lose N$100.6 to N$172.4 billion per year in potential fiscal revenue from illegal logging, fishing and wildlife crime. Despite the unprecedented global Covid-19 pandemic, the threat of wildlife crime continued in 2020, according to the International Consortium on Combatting Wildlife Crime (ICCWC) annual report for 2020, titled 'Together Against Wildlife Crime'. The report said despite considerable effort by the global community, wildlife crime remains a significant threat.
