Serious questions are emerging over an alleged plan to secretly release and deport controversial Chinese national and convicted wildlife trafficker Lin Yunhua before the conclusion of his ongoing corruption trial in Malawi. Lin, whose case has long drawn public outrage and international scrutiny, was initially sentenced to 14 years in prison for wildlife trafficking offences but served only four years after receiving a presidential pardon under the administration of former president Lazarus Chakwera. The pardon triggered widespread criticism from conservation groups and anti-corruption advocates, who warned that it undermined Malawi's credibility in the global fight against transnational wildlife crime.
