First documentation of Rüppell's Korhaan (Heterotetrax rueppelii) chicks and alarm vocalizations in northwest Namibia
On 9 June 2025, while deploying trail cameras in the Etendeka Concession, Kunene Region, Namibia (19.69923°S, 13.97367°E), we flushed a male-female pair of Rüppell's Korhaan, Heterotetrax rueppelii, from the edge of a remote 4×4 track (Fig. 1). Two chicks were observed fleeing after the adults. We stopped the vehicle and carefully moved the chicks to nearby vegetation to reduce risk of vehicle collision. Rüppell's Korhaan is a bustard species endemic to the arid regions of northwestern Namibia (Fig. 2) and is sometimes confused with Karoo Fig. 1.
